Home of the Junior Club

in

Welcome to the new home page of the Junior Club. There are links down the left hand side to take you to specific pages for each of the junior clubs.

New sponsor

We are pleased to announce that we have secured additional sponsorship from "InterHealth
Canada
", a global private healthcare provider based in Toronto but with a growing UK presence. They have donated £3,000 to the club for this season which we intend to use on purchasing some brand new well needed equipment / kit (at a discounted rate from another sponsor, "Ultraworld") for new players to use when trying out, and on advertising and marketing so we can ramp up our recruitment drives and boost up player numbers.

Christmas Raffle

All players should have been given tickets to sell for the Christmas Raffle.
The tickets cost just £1.00 each and there is a first prize of £250.00.
All money raised from the sale of tickets goes straight back in to the club, so please do your best to sell as many as you can. The person who sells the highest number of tickets will be awarded with a brand new Ice Hockey Stick, courtesy of Ultraworld.
Any players who have not yet received their tickets should ask their Team manager.

Latest Car Parking News

Council approval has been given to a short term solution where by Oxford hockey club members purchase parking tickets at the full cost and then on a monthly basis submit expired machine tickets for a partial refund (initially 50% of normal tariff charge).  This is to commence from 01 November 2009. The short term scheme will be very labour intensive for Council staff but is a sign of our willingness to help resolve the issues.

The short term subsidy arrangement will be replaced with a long term vision of implementing a RingGo solution to support all Oxford Ice Rink users.  I am sure you would appreciate that this needs to be  implemented in partnership with Fusion-lifestyle and that further consideration has to be given on how this could be successfully implemented for all stakeholders, and to ensure an appropriate subsidy is calculated (this may be less than 50%).

Please contact team managers for the claims forms.

Oxford City Junior IHC statement

It has come to our attention that an unfounded rumour has been going round the junior hockey community accusing this club of blocking a player from trying out for Conference. Whilst we would not usually comment in a public forum about an individual case, and we will not go into great detail here anyway, this has got to the stage where we feel we have to say something as the club's reputation is suffering unfair, and possibly malicious, damage.

Club policy for a number of years has been to only send players to trials if we feel they have some chance of making it to the squad for which they are trying out. We hope this means that Conference coaches will realise that it is worth taking a good look at anyone we send rather than starting to think we just are just sending people for the sake of it. The policy seems to work as over the last several years we have had a high number of players make Conference and England teams when you take into account the fact that all of our teams are currently in the 'B leagues'.

In this case a player was not put forward because his coach did not consider him good enough based on expected Conference standards. He came from a roller/puck background and had not been playing on ice for long. Our understanding is that at some point after the trials a SW coach approached the player/his parent and asked why the player hadn't attended the trials as standards in his position hadn't been great and he may have stood a chance of selection. We suspect this coach may have based his opinion on the player's roller and puck hockey performances rather than on seeing him play on ice but that doesn't really matter. This coach's direct approach appears to have led to the player becoming very upset which is hardly surprising. It also appears to have led to a widespread rumour about our club stopping him trying out for Conference or playing for Conference when in reality we have, to date, received no request for him to trial. If the Conference coach wanted to look at this player all he needed to do was contact this club and ask if we would send him along to further trials or to training sessions as they would like to look at him. Permission would have been granted and the situation resolved. We would not stop any player from trying out or playing for Conference if we, or the Conference coaches, considered him good enough. We never have and we never will. Even if there were disciplinary issues relating to the player, something that did not apply in this case anyway, we would merely expect to make Conference coaches aware of any situation rather than just ban the player from Conference unilaterally.

As a club we are fully aware of our responsibilities to our members and we believe that if the accusations were true it may even be a child protection issue. In reality we believe that if there are any child protection issues arising in this case then they emanate from the actions of others rather than ourselves.

We are disappointed that it has become necessary to issue this statement but we cannot allow our reputation to be unjustifiably smeared without making any response as this could have an adverse effect on our club (and it's membership) both now and in the future.

Help the Stars with easysearch.org.uk

Easysearch works just like a normal search engine giving fast, accurate results every time you search the web. But, it also gives you something back! When you use easysearch to search the web each search will generate about a penny for the club. It may not sound like much, but the pennies soon mount up and each searcher can raise £25 a year - or more - just by switching the normal searching to easysearch!

The following link takes you to the new Club search page. It would be great if you could use this to help us raise funds for the club.
